Announcing a new website is a major milestone for any business owner, and it deserves to be celebrated! One of the biggest boo-boo’s I see business owners make is spending weeks (or months!) building their website, then quietly hitting publish without creating any anticipation.
Launching your new website is just as important as building it. It’s your chance to build momentum, connect with your audience, and make your launch an experience that people want to be a part of. After all, what’s the point of having a beautiful new website if no one is landing on it?
In this article, I’ll share creative and engaging ideas to help you plan a website launch so that your brand gets the attention it deserves.
A successful website launch doesn’t start the moment you hit “publish” — it starts weeks before. While your website is being designed and developed, use this time to build hype, grow your audience, and nurture your existing community so that when launch day arrives, you already have a crowd gathered at the door.
Instead of putting up a plain “Coming Soon” page and calling it a day, add an opt-in form to capture leads while your new site is under construction.
I recommend giving your audience an incentive to sign up. Offer a small discount, early access, or a special freebie when the site launches. Give people a reason to care about your upcoming launch and a reason to stick around when you go live.
Don't leave your website announcement to the last minute. Map out a timeline a couple weeks in advance, including teaser posts, sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes content, and countdowns across different marketing channels. This keeps your audience engaged and builds anticipation without overwhelming them.
Quietly publish your website 48-72 hours before your planned launch date. This gives you time to fix any tech hiccups and ensure your site is fully propagated across the internet. A seamless first experience matters - no one wants to click to a broken link or land on a clunky page.
Now, let’s dive into the fun part: how to announce your new website!
Pick 1-2 social media platforms to focus on such as Instagram, Threads, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. It’s better to show up meaningfully in a few places rather than burn out trying to be everywhere.
Posting on Instagram stories is a great way to share informal, real-time updates. You can show sneak peeks of your new design, yap about your excitement, and post a countdown timer to remind your audience of your launch date.
Stories are also an amazing way to create a personal connection with your community. Talk about your decision behind redesigning your website, what you’re most proud of, and what the process has been like.
Once your website is live, create eye-catching feed posts. Share before-and-after comparisons, highlight what’s new, and invite your followers to explore.
Don’t just post one! Keep posting throughout launch week to keep the momentum alive.
If you worked with a freelancer or agency to build your new website, consider creating a collaboration post with them when launch day rolls around. This will help you expand your reach as well as show your gratitude for their hard work.
Email marketing is another great way to personally invite your audience to experience your new website—before, during, and after launch day. Unlike social media posts that can get buried, emails land directly in your subscribers' inboxes and give you more control over your message.
When you email your list about your launch, don’t just say “My website is live!” and call it a day. Make it fun and give people a reason to browse!
Here are a few creative email launch ideas:
Send a short and engaging quiz to your email subscribers, where all the answers can be found by scrolling through various pages of your website. Reward the first correct entry with a prize!
Link a couple buttons to different pages of your website to encourage your audience to explore.
Example: Choose Your Own Adventure
Button 1: Meet the founder
Button 2: Explore all services
Button 3: Browse the blog
The idea is to give a friendly nudge to your subscribers to scroll through more than just your homepage and get inside data on which links receive the most clicks.
Send teaser emails leading up to the launch, with a countdown timer to build anticipation.
Provide value in each email, such as dishing out free tips or giving exclusive freebies.
The goal is to build excitement, create hype, and drive meaningful traffic to your new site, not just make an announcement and hope that people visit.
Offering incentives gives your visitors a reason to click your new website beyond curiosity. Make it clear to your people what’s in it for them.
Website incentives can include:
Make your launch feel like a party for your audience, not just an announcement about you.
Your team, business partners, loyal customers, and friends can be powerful allies. Encourage them to share your announcement posts, tag others, and use a launch hashtag. Offering a small incentive—like a gift card, discount, or exclusive perk—can also motivate more shares.
Before you fully unveil your site, invite a small group of followers or customers to “beta test” it before launch day. Their feedback can help you catch small issues such as typos, broken links, or confusing navigation to make sure your website has a seamless user experience. Plus, including your community in the process means they’ll feel more connected to your brand (and excited to share when you go live!).
Turn your launch into an event!
Depending on your brand and audience, you can:
Use the party to share the “why” behind the redesign, walk people through the changes, and celebrate this major milestone with your community.
Launching a website isn’t just a technical update, but it is a huge opportunity to create deeper connections with your community, build heat around your brand, and plant the seeds for future growth.
By planning ahead and bringing creative ideas into your new website announcement, you leave a good and lasting impression with your audience.
